Antique Perfume bottles
These gorgeous perfume bottles came to South Africa with the 1820 settlers. They have found their way from Algoa Bay, to Johannesburg and have finally settled in Knysna. The challenge in designing the perfume bottles is working with fine, silk organza and a selection of transparent fabrics to achieve the illusion of glass. The contrast of the cut crystal and the hallmark silver is yet another challenge. The threads are fine silks and delicate, single strand, hand-dyed cottons. An antique Italian technique, worked in silk on tulle, is combined with composite stitches and a touch of beading.
The digital pattern includes a detailed colour picture, instructions, techniques, stitch glossary and suggested materials required list, in order to complete this design.
