Barred Owlets
Picture approximately 35cmx 35cm background fabric. The challenge of this embroidery is the interpretation of the appearance of these beautiful creatures. Their head and shoulders are barred (striped) and this effect is translated in couched bouclé and mohair. Wonderful attention to detail is seen in the eyes and beak. The owlets are a clever manipulation of textured threads. The bodies are both similar yet different and this effect is achieved with colour grading and shading in “crazy ” wools. The foliage is stumpwork and embellished appliqué. The picture is completed with subtle background branches and shading which marry the birds and their surrounding foliage.
